Griffith wins Fort Erie title

Griffith rode a remarkable 11 winners in the season's last three race days to
capture the jockeys' title at the Fort Erie course on Sunday.
Griffith, who was five behind in the last week of racing, showed
impressive form to overtake the leader Doug Gibbons and capture the
championship with 94 winners, three clear of Gibbons' 91.
Griffith, who won the 1996 ( Cockspur ) Gold Cup
in Barbados with Rambrino, had two four-timers and a
triple in those last three days to end a successful season there.
Trinidadian Emile Ramsammy continues to lead the standings at the more
celebrated Woodbine meet. He has 136 winners to lead Michael Walls on 116
with six weeks remaining in the season.
Barbadian Patrick Husbands is 17th in the standings with 33 winners,
while Ricky Griffith is 20th with 23 winners. A third Barbadian, Slade
Callaghan, is 24th with 17 winners.
Jamaican Laurie Silvera is 14th in the Woodbine trainers' standings with
26 winners, earnings over Can$ 471 000.00.
